Beating the Cebu Pacific rap

I love Cebu Pacific but just like any other budget carrier, they try to make their money back through overweight fees. On the flight back from Singapore they were going to charge 60 Singapore dollars for every 5 kg. overweight. Having bought a lot of books India (really cheap there, because they have their own publishing houses) I knew we were definitely going to be overweight. So what we did was go to a box forwarder (balikbayan box) in Lucky Plaza on Orchard road and was able to send home a whole backpack full of shoes and books for exactly the same price as 5 kg. on Cebu Pacific. But this time, the box could be as heavy as I wanted as long as it fit in the box. The box finally arrived two weeks after and I am very happy with the results. I’m sure you could do the same thing in Hong Kong, Bangkok, or anywhere there is a large enough Filipino community. So sorry, Cebu Pacific, I like your fares but can’t afford your overweight prices. So hence, my solution.
